began his academic studies in 1986 at the University of Freiburg (Germany).
In 1989 he went to London, where, one year later, he was awarded an M.A. in archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology
and School of Oriental and African Studies. After a year as Research Assistant for the Concise Dictionary of Akkadian Project,
he went to the University of Chicago, Oriental Institute, where he has been working in several positions since 1995.
In 2001 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago for his thesis on "Political Changes and Cultural Continuity
at the Palace of the Rulers in Eshnunna (Tell Asmar) from the Ur III Period to the Isin-Larsa Period (ca. 2070 - 1850 B.C)".
He is director / co-director of several projects based at the Oriental Institute: the Diyala Project
(http://oi.uchicago.edu/OI/PROJ/DIY/Diyala1.html), the Hamoukar Excavation (http://oi.uchicago.edu/OI/PROJ/HAM/Hamoukar.html)
and the Iraq Museum Database Project (http://oi.uchicago.edu/OI/IRAQ/iraq.html).
Beside his dissertation and reports on the progress of the various projects his major publications include
contributions on seals and sealing practices as well as a site gazetteer resulting from a survey of the upper
Lake Assad region in Syria. Clemens Reichel has widely participated in surveys and excavations in Syria, Turkey, Jordan and Egypt. |
