is Director of Research at the Oriental Institute in Prague (Czech republic) and Associate Professor at Charles University (Prague). He was awarded a D.Litt. in 1995 by Charles University after having successfully defended his thesis on Ancient Mesopotamia - Humankind's Long Voyage into Civilization. He has participated to numerous excavations in Bohemia (Beroun), Egypt (Abusir), Iraq (Djemdet Nasr), Lebanon (Beirut) and Turkey (Tilbes Höyük ). His current interests include Prehistoric Archaeology of Bohemia and Moravia, Pre- and Protohistoric Archaeology of Mesopotamia and adjacent regions. His last book Ancient Mesopotamia - Humankind's Long Journey into Civilization was published in 1993 (The Oriental Institute, Praha) for which he received a Research Prize from the Minister of Education of the Czech Republic. |
