Flourentzos, Pavlos (Cypriote)
Born in Famagusta-Cyprus. Studied at Charles University, Prague and obtained the titles of M.A. and Ph.D. in Archaeology and History of Art. Since 1973, he has been working at the Department of Antiquities in Cyprus where he held the position of Curator of Antiquities from 1993 till 2004 when he became Director. He is the author of more than 70 scientific articles on the Archaeology, Art and History of Cyprus, published in local and foreign scientific journals. He is also the author of twelve books in Greek and English concerning the Archaeology, History and Art of Cyprus such as: Excavations in the Kouris Valley Vols I (1991), II (1996); A Hoard of Medieval Antiquities from Nicosia (1994); A guide to Larnaca District Museum (1996); Cyprus Heritage (1997), (published in six languages) and The Sarcophagus of Palaipaphos (2007). He has participated in many archaeological symposia and conferences on Cypriot Art, History and Archaeology and has lectured at Universities and academic societies in Europe and America. He is the excavator of many archaeological sites in Cyprus. Since 1979 he is a member of the Society of Antiquaries of London, since 1990 the General Secretary of the Cyprus Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and since 2005 its President. In 2005 he was made a Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin and in 2007 was awarded the medal of the University of Warsaw (Poland).
