is Scientific Collaborator at the Dept. of Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Tübingen (Germany). He has done fieldwork in Lebanon (Kamid el-Loz, Beirut, Tell el-Burak), Syria (Tell Chuera, Halawa, Tell el-'Abd, Emar) and Iraq, where he directed a 8-month survey of the ruins of Uruk-Warka. At present he is co-Director of the Syro-German excavations at Emar/Meskene (Syria) as well as of the Lebanese-German excavations at Tell el-Burak on the Mediterranean coast. In his research he focuses on questions of chronology and on the possibilities of pottery analysis to pinpoint periods and their boundaries. To that end, he has initiated and organized several symposia and workshops bringing together an international group of colleagues for the discussion of those topics. Besides excavation reports, his publications include, for example, articles on small finds and pottery from previous excavations at Uruk and a monograph about the Uruk survey. As collaborator of the Tübingen Atlas of the Near East (TAVO), he has contributed to archaeological maps on Mesopotamia at various periods. |
